Pro Tip

While 1080px is the standard upload width for most social platforms, uploading at 2160px (2×) prevents compression artifacts on high-DPI Retina screens. The platform will downscale it, but the source quality is preserved.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common image size questions.

For Instagram feed posts, use 1080 × 1350 pixels (4:5 portrait ratio) for maximum visibility in the feed. Square posts should be 1080 × 1080. Stories and Reels require 1080 × 1920 (9:16 vertical). Profile pictures display at 320×320 but upload at 800×800 for crisp rendering on high-DPI screens. See all Instagram sizes →
Divide both the width and height by their Greatest Common Divisor (GCD). For example, 1920 × 1080: the GCD is 120, so 1920 ÷ 120 = 16 and 1080 ÷ 120 = 9, giving a 16:9 aspect ratio. Use our free calculator for instant results with any dimensions.
DPI (Dots Per Inch) refers to printer output resolution — how many dots of ink per inch. PPI (Pixels Per Inch) refers to screen display density. For print, 300 DPI is the professional standard. For web, 72–96 PPI is common, though modern Retina displays exceed 200 PPI. Use our DPI/PPI calculator to convert between them.
Use 300 DPI for high-quality prints like photos, brochures, and business cards. 150 DPI is acceptable for large-format prints viewed from a distance (posters, banners). For billboards, 30–70 DPI is sufficient due to the extreme viewing distance. Check our print size guide for exact pixel dimensions at each DPI.
The ISO A-series includes: A4 (210 × 297mm), A3 (297 × 420mm), A5 (148 × 210mm). US standards: Letter (8.5 × 11"), Legal (8.5 × 14"), Tabloid (11 × 17"). A4 is taller and narrower than US Letter, which is slightly wider. See them compared side by side →
